Dubai motorists can now use an upgraded version of the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) virtual assistant, Mahboub, to complete selected vehicle licensing services online in less than five minutes.
The development is part of RTA's updated Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy, announced on November 1, 2026. The authority is moving towards a more automated customer service model, allowing residents to complete certain transactions through digital channels instead of relying entirely on traditional service processes.
The upgraded Mahboub assistant is accessible through the RTA website, mobile application and WhatsApp.
What can Dubai motorists do through Mahboub?
According to RTA, the upgraded platform already supports five vehicle licensing services that customers can complete entirely online.
The system also provides access to approximately 100 information services, allowing users to obtain answers and guidance about RTA services through a single digital platform.
By integrating the assistant with UAE PASS and Dubai Pay, RTA aims to make vehicle-related transactions quicker and easier to complete.
The authority says eligible vehicle transactions can be completed in less than five minutes through the upgraded platform.
Mahboub is moving beyond answering questions
Previously, virtual assistants were mainly used to answer customer questions and provide information about available services.
RTA is now developing Mahboub into a more capable digital assistant that can help customers complete transactions from start to finish.
This approach uses Agentic AI, a form of artificial intelligence designed to carry out tasks and coordinate steps towards a particular outcome rather than simply generating responses.
For motorists, the intended benefit is a more direct digital experience, with fewer steps involved in accessing selected RTA services.
RTA plans to expand AI-powered services
The Mahboub upgrade is one part of RTA's wider AI strategy, which covers 41 areas across the authority's agencies, sectors and departments.
The strategy includes several targets for improving transport services and internal operations over the next two and a half years.
These include:
Reducing traffic congestion by 3 to 5 per cent.
Cutting customer case and complaint processing times by 20 to 30 per cent.
Reducing waiting times at Customer Happiness Centres by 14 to 16 per cent.
Shortening service delivery times at these centres by 15 to 20 per cent.
Reducing accidents involving newly licensed drivers by 10 to 20 per cent.
RTA also aims to move 50 per cent of its operations and services into an Agentic AI ecosystem by the end of 2027.
What other transport services will benefit from AI?
The strategy extends beyond vehicle licensing and customer support.
RTA is also developing an AI-powered bus network planner that uses approximately 20 AI agents to analyse service performance, identify gaps and assess possible improvements to Dubai's bus network.
The system aims to improve bus punctuality by up to 10 per cent and reduce the time required to implement service changes from around 60 days to 48 days.
Another initiative involves an AI-powered electronic No Objection Certificate (eNOC) system. It is designed to help applicants submit the necessary documents, conduct preliminary checks and support the review process for applications involving work near RTA assets.
These projects form part of a broader effort to use technology to improve the efficiency of public transport and government services.
When will more Mahboub services become available?
RTA has set a target of increasing the proportion of services delivered through Mahboub to 10 per cent by the end of 2026 and 50 per cent by the end of 2027.
The authority also aims to double the speed of service delivery through the platform.
These are future targets rather than guarantees that every RTA transaction will be available through the assistant by those dates.
Where can residents access Mahboub?
Residents can access RTA's digital assistant through the authority's official website, mobile application and WhatsApp channel.
For the latest information about available services, motorists should use RTA's official digital platforms and check the requirements for their specific transaction before starting.
As Dubai continues to expand its digital government services, Mahboub's development signals a shift towards platforms that can do more than provide information — they are increasingly being designed to help residents complete everyday tasks online.
