dubai speed limit changing

Motorists in Dubai will need to pay attention to new speed limits on five major roads from Sunday, November 1, as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduces changes aimed at improving traffic flow and road safety.

The changes will see speed limits increased on three roads and reduced on two others. The revised limits will apply in both directions along the specified sections.

The RTA announced the changes in coordination with Dubai Police, with updated road signs and speed cameras being adjusted ahead of implementation.

Which Dubai roads will have higher speed limits?

Three roads will see increases in their permitted speed limits:

The changes apply to specific sections:

  • Al Asayel Street: Between Oud Maitha Street and Al Meydan Street.

  • Al Mustaqbal Street: Between Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Meydan Street.

  • Latifa bint Hamdan Street: Between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.

Which roads will have lower speed limits?

Two roads will have reduced speed limits from November 1:

The affected sections are:

  • Al Rebat Street: Between Marrakech Street and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

  • Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street: Between 2nd December Street and Khalid bin Al Waleed Street.

Why is Dubai changing its speed limits?

According to the RTA, the adjustments follow a comprehensive engineering and technical study conducted with an international consultant.

The assessment considered several factors, including traffic volumes, road design, surrounding developments, vehicle speeds and pedestrian activity.

The authority said the changes are intended to improve traffic movement while maintaining road safety across Dubai's main routes.

The review also follows updates to the Dubai Speed Management Manual in 2026, which incorporates international practices for managing speed limits.

Will speed cameras be updated?

Yes. The RTA confirmed that speed limit signs will be replaced along the affected roads and speed cameras will be reprogrammed to reflect the revised limits before implementation.

Motorists should therefore pay attention to the updated road signs rather than relying on previously familiar speed limits.

What should Dubai motorists do before November 1?

Drivers who regularly use these roads should check the revised limits before travelling.

A few practical steps can help avoid confusion:

  • Check road signs when travelling along the affected sections.

  • Follow the new limits from November 1.

  • Do not assume that an increased speed limit applies to the entire road.

  • Allow additional time when adjusting to revised traffic conditions.

The changes are part of Dubai's ongoing efforts to improve its road network and manage traffic as the emirate continues to grow.

Inside Dubai will continue to follow transport announcements and road updates that affect daily commuters across the emirate.
